Logan County has one licensed solid waste facility. Cherokee Run Landfill, located on State Route 68 in Bellefontaine, accepts municipal solid waste, including household, commercial, and industrial waste. To contact the landfill please call (937) 593-3566.

The Logan County Health District assists the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency with inspections of the facility to make sure that they are in compliance with Ohio’s Solid Waste and Infectious Waste regulations.

Over 100 reports of open dumping are received at LCHD annually. It is illegal to dump anything other than clean, hard fill in Ohio. Only concrete, asphalt, brick and similar materials constitute clean hard fill.

When property owners are financially or otherwise unable to clean up open dumping, the environmental and health hazards presented must still be addressed. Therefore, open dumping costs the taxpayer millions of dollars statewide each year in clean up costs.

Backyard and indoor composting are most suitable for households to convert small quantities of organic materials (such as yard trimmings and food scraps) into compost that can be spread in garden beds, under shrubs, or use it as potting soil for outdoor plants.

Infectious waste, also known as medical waste or biohazardous waste, is material that was used in health care, research, or postmortem exams.

Infectious waste generators are businesses that produce more than 50 pounds of infectious waste per month and are governed by Ohio Administrative Code 3745-27-30.
